' Open Air Swimming Pool. Opened 1939 just before World War two. It was open during the war and the school children used it for lessons and the water wasn't heated. It was built to olympic size of 50m and 10 foot at the deep end. The land was donated by the Gillett banking family to the people of Banbury and it was designed by Sidney Hilton who was the Borough Surveyor. Fairbrothers ran the cafe which had an opulent fountain outside. Many Banbury residents remember being taught to swim by Mrs Harris. '
